We'd heard great things about Brooklyn clothing store Oak (formerly Oak for men and Canary for women, but now combined into one store) and were looking forward to checking it out on our next visit to New York. Well, in this brave new world Oak has come to us first. We just noticed that the pioneering Williamsburg clothing shop has opened for business online at Oaknyc.com.
If you like Hejfina or South Willard, Opening Ceremony or Creatures of Comfort, then you'll love Oak. It seems like the store is just getting started online, with only a few dozen items for men and women. But they're off to an auspicious start with a collection that expertly navigates basic and high concept, grand and casual.
With the type of stores we cover, it's not often that we'll see DKNY on the racks. But it's nice to know a store isn't afraid to carry pieces they like even if they're not from an edgy indie label.
Which is not to say there aren't tons of edgy indie labels in the shop. Oak is the first place online we've found that sells Opening Ceremony's line.
The men's selection is every bit as good. Look for Rachel Comey, Godspeed The Well Dressed Man and Rogues Gallery.
And the denim line ignores the super-trendy lines and goes straight for quality with American favorites 5EP and Rag & Bone and European favorites Acne and Nudie.
