Fall '09 collections are ready to be shipped to stores, if not there already, despite the Summer weather finally catching up with us here in New York. So we thought we'd write about one of our favorite Fall 2009 collections of the year, from designer Samantha Pleet.
Pleet's latest collection is all about fun and friends. So it is a logical step to present the garments with friends in tow, which is just what Pleet did. Known for her eclectic presentations, thinking outside the runway is not an unusual thing for Pleet. She presented her Fall 2009 Samantha Pleet and Patrick Pleet lines at the Tribecca Grand last February with a film and a party to go with it. Her friends and models were there to join in the fun, wearing some of the collection's pieces. A genius idea, since then you can see the clothes up close and the way they are meant to be: worn and in motion. That is also the brilliance of the film presentations. How else can you capture the whimsy of the Winged Dress if not in motion, for example?

The fun and friends theme recurred throughout the film, with the models dancing, eating and twirling around. They all look right at home in all of the immensely wearable pieces, which are casual enough for everyday yet polished enough to be dressed up for a party. The collection included some fabulous rompers, for which Pleet is famous for, along with versatile dresses in dark neutral shades (mostly versatile black) with whimsical details like ruffles.
