What better way to celebrate this decennial event than by having a lavish celebration at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. The Who’s Who of fashion designers, industry professionals and style mavens were all in attendance filling up every square inch of Tribeca Grand’s expanse. Jargol was proud to be among one of SEVEN’s favorite blogs co-hosting this momentous occasion. With live performances by band’s Little Boot’s and The Golden Filter, mixed with free flowing cocktails courtesy of Patron, there was no shortage of entertainment. Seven’s anniversary party will go down in the books, and was one of the more memorable events that took place this fashion week.

Jargol is proud to announce that we are co-hosts of Seven's 10 Year anniversary party
on Friday February 12th 10pm-4am at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. Congratulations to Steve, Joe and the whole Seven team.
The 21st edition of Slow and Steady Wins the Race is "Birthday." To find out what this actually means you'll have to go to the opening at Kiosk where the collection will be featured for one week. This "mini" edition of Kiosk will be running from the opening party at 7pm on February 13th through the 20th.
If you're in Brooklyn tonight, may we recommend a show at Glasslands featuring friend of Jargol Nathan Antolik. More info here. We'll see you there.
Last Friday, January 9th Deitch Projects debuted Stephen Sprouse Rock on Mars. Running through February 28, the show is a life retrospective of Sprouse (who died in 2004), an icon of the downtown New York fashion scene. Though known mostly for his collections of raucous, day-glo clothing imbued with punk and street influcences, the show paints a portrait of a man of incandescent creativity who bounced between the worlds of fashion, art and rock and roll and had a grand old time doing it.
The installation the work of Jamie Boud, a longtime Sprouse design assistant. From the massive crucifixes to the giant canvases to the the room of neon-tinted sketches to of course the dozens of looks from the years of collections, it is a sight to behold.
For fashion enthusiasts such as ourselves, the clear influences Sprouse's work has had on a generation of designers is what struck us. We went expecting to see quirky, if entertaining collection, clearly dated by the trends of New York in the 1980s. Instead we found precursors to designs from everyone from c.neeon (compare the tube top dress below to one of the German duo's digital prints) to Raf Simons (how much does the pair of black shoes below look like one of Simons' high-top sneakers?) to Jeremy Scott (see the tabloid print dresses below).
Until late February Rock on Mars will be where the fashion world, the art world, the music world and those just looking for a good show will meet. We have a feeling Sprouse would not have it any other way.
To coincide with the show, longtime Sprouse collectors Roger and Mauricio Padilha have released The Stephen Sprouse Book. Louis Vuitton's Marc Jacobs, who collaborated with Sprouse on a special collection of accessories in 2001, has created a new collection in tribute to Sprouse that will be sold at select Vuitton stores. Vuitton also put together WeLoveSprouse.com, a tribute site complete with show videos, interviews, a Sprouse playlist and more.
Lyndsy Welgos, one of Jargol's contributing writers, is taking part in a group exhibition at North Hall Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Welgos' photography will be shown alongside the work of artists Rachel Beach and Justin Scott Adian.
The opening reception for the show is November 6th from 6 to 8pm. North Hall Gallery is located at 529-535 35th Street, New York, NY. See this ArtSlant posting for more information.
We expect it to be a show Jargol readers will rather enjoy. RSVP at NHG@splashlight.com.
