  • Self-taught Austrian designer Helmut Lang began by creating designs for his own store in Vienna in 1979.
  • Lang he is known for modern, minimalist, futuristic designs, emphasizing synthetic fabrics for flat front pants and slim suits.
  • Lang also became recognized for including leather straps and harnesses with his pants and jeans.
  • Lang re-located his business to Paris in the 1980's, then to New York in 1997. He then sold it to Prada Group in 1999 and left the label in 2005. Prada sold the company to Link Theory in 2006
  • The label was re-launched by Link Theory in 2006 with designers Michael and Nicole Colovos, formally of the Los Angeles-based denim label Habitual.
