Academy LPs
New York City rents don't really allow for those everything-under-the-sun record shops with hundred of thousands of records stacked every which way--and thank God for that. Instead there are shops like Academy Records, a more refined record shop making up in depth what it may lack in breadth. Academy's different locations specialize in different areas. In their respective areas they have everything from rare, expensive pressings to the obligatory bargain bins that allow for some digging fun. The Village shop focuses on jazz and pop vinyl, the Flatiron shop on classical vinyl and CDs from all genres, while the Williamsburg annex on rock and jazz. Of course in each of these locations there are plenty of wonderful records that don't fit in to these categories--classic blues and country records, obscure '80s vinyl and the like. These are truly record shops for music lovers and collectors.
