Symmetry
Asian and modern furniture stores usually occupy diametrically opposed areas of the home design landscape. Symmetry effortlessly marries the two aesthetics as if they were meant for each other all their lives. The decidedly grown-up store--we imagine a typical customer to be a doctor in her '40s with a thriving private practice and a penchant for world travel--gathers items that are modern, Asian and often both. Wooden stools from Thailand are carved in a helix shape that would make any modernist proud. Rugs come from Tibet, are woven form Himalayan wool, but come in both contemporary and traditional patterns. Here sits a giant Buddha, there sits an unabashedly modern dining table made of wood and stainless steel from Canada.
